Owing to the excellent rail-road connectivity, main sea route juxtaposition, rain or shine operational ability and connectivity to both Eastern and Western Coast, the mercantile turbine V.O. Chidambranar Port has proposed to set up a Multimodal Logistics Park (MLP), with the aim to warrant seamless and multimodal payload transfer.

The MLP will offer specialized logistics solutions like mechanised material handling in warehouses along with cold storage, bonded storage yards, testing facilities, customs clearance, post-manufacturing facilities and intermodal transfer terminals for containers.

The conjectural turf to establish the almost 100 acre MLP includes Coimbatore, Madurai and Thoothukudi, considering the current manufacturing hubs are located in the secondary hinterland i.e. Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Salem, Erode, Pollachi, Karur, Rajapalayam, Madurai etc.

The MLP is expected to considerably reduce EXIM logistics cost, pollution and congestion by cargo trucks and warehousing costs.

The port trust is in synergy with various stakeholders in the hinterland and industrial associations to develop the MLP, following which, the proposal will be submitted to the Government for approval.

The V.O. Chidambaranar Port enjoys cardinal proximity East-West International Sea Routes on the South Eastern Coast of India. With Sri Lanka on the South East and Indian land mass on the West, the port is veiled from the ferocious storms and cyclonic winds. The terminals facilitate daily connectivity to Colombo and reaching further to the Far East, through its weekly mainline services. The port’s two container terminals, with the capacity to handle 1.17 million TEUs of containers, are well supported by 17 Container Freight Stations and one Inland Container Depot.
